AS SEIU 1000 meets today at CDPH

SEIU USE WORKERS’ POWER!

SEIU 1000 has the power to redefine the debate in Sacramento and beyond. State workers standing united can turn back the Governor’s attacks. We can protect our wages, protect our pensions, reclaim the holidays stolen from us as well as win the 18% loss in income we have suffered over 10 years of real decline in wages due to lack of COLA’s which have failed to keep our wages apace with inflation.

Right now the Governor is feeling his oats! No mater how you try to spin the Supremes decision he stole 15% from us for 20 months that is not coming back unless we force our hand. Right now he feels we are defeated and that he can force us to take concessions like the unions which have already settled. But we must stand strong and say: NO CONCESSIONS WE ALREADY PAID FOR YOUR CRISIS. IF YOU NEED MONEY GET IT FROM CAPITAL NOT LABOR!

On top shredding our MOU’s and locking us out he has stolen two holidays which we negotiated in lieu of wage hikes which might have kept us current with inflation years ago. The last two years have been the crown jewel of his achievement. He was hired by the capitalists and bankers to destroy state workers unions and he has nearly accomplished his goal! Now is our last chance to save our unions by standing strong and taking indefinite strike action. We are strike legal. Our MOU states no lockout and no strikes, his violation of this agreement puts everything on the table. WE HAVE BEEN LOCKED OUT THEREFORE WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO STRIKE! In fact if we don’t strike our union has been rendered useless!

The Supremes said the lockout was legal, not because the Governor had the right to impose it, but because our “friends” in the legislature approved the supplemental budget request based on the funding needed to pay us with furloughs in place. This is a loud wake up call. It tells us that the legislature, the courts and the executive are all in the employ of the ruling class and have agreed to make us pay for their crisis. ALL ACROSS THE WORLD THE BANKERS AND SPECULATORS DEMAND THE WORKERS PAY FOR THEIR CRISIS. WE MUST STAY WE WILL NOT BE YOUR SCAPEGOAT!

They claim there is no money and that this budget crisis is a spending problem based in no small part on our measly pensions. We know that the average pensioner receives less than $40,000 a year. We know that the big corporations have been swimming in billions of tax loopholes and savings from proposition 13 for years while working people pay ever-increasing regressive sales taxes. We don’t buy the lie that there is no money. Shut the state down for a week you will see how fast they find the money!

To win requires a change in strategy and leadership of our unions. The current crop of union leaders have refused us engage in struggles using the working class methods that forged the unions in the first place. That being militant job actions such as strikes. Rather our union leaders rely on the courts and their “friends” in the Democratic party. No mater how many times these politicians kick us in the teeth our leaders tell us that they are our only hope. Despite Jerry Brown’s promise to be tough on the unions and to enforce pension reform (cut our pensions) our unions are backing him as their last ditch hope.

Our only hope at this point is to BREAK WITH THE DEMOCRATS AND TAKE MILITANT ACTION TO SHUT DOWN THE STATE! RUN LABOR CANDIDATES AND REFUSE TO GIVE ONE PENNY TO THE SELL OUTS WHO APPROVED THE FURLOUGHS BY APPROVEING THE CONCESSIONAY BUDGET!

DEMAND STRIKE ACTION NOW OR PREPARE FOR MORE GIVE BACKS! THE CHOICE IS YOURS!

State workers committee for rank and file democracy and action.
