Whereas, the Veolia Transportation Company’s Vice President Thomas P. Hock played a role as a consultant “negotiator” in attacking BART transit workers in their recent contract struggle, and

Whereas, Veolia Transportation has fired union leaders of the Boston School Bus Drivers Union who are members of USW 8751 for seeking to enforce their contract and union rights, and

Whereas, Veolia, a huge transnational company based in France, has been involved in privatizing not only public transportation but water treatment and other public services and weakening and destroying unions and their labor rights and economic conditions, and

Whereas, Veolia is attacking unions and public services in the United States and around the world, and there is a need to provide education on this company and to link up labor, environmental and human rights organizations to oppose this union- busting, environment-polluting global conglomerate.

Therefore be it resolved that the San Francisco Labor Council endorse the broad international campaign by labor, environmental and human rights organizations to expose Veolia and defeat their union-busting plans, and in solidarity with the Boston School Bus Drivers in their courageous struggle to defend their contract and human rights, win reinstatement for their leaders, and fight privatization of public services, and

Be it finally resolved the Council endorse a labor-community education conference on Veolia to be held in the Bay Area on February 8, 2014 and help publicize this education conference to all affiliates.

Submitted by United Transportation Union Local 1741 and unanimously adopted by the San Francisco Labor Council on December 9, 2013.

Respectfully,

Tim Paulson Executive Director
